9/16/11 Smith Hour 3: SPAM-tastic

"English is a funny language; that explains why we park our car on the driveway and drive our car on the parkway." (Unknown).

Another optimum day in the world of Smith's English! As usual on a Friday, students filed into the classroom, the thought of quizzes looming over their heads, sat down, and completed their last minute studying while pronouncing, "I'm gonna fail these tests!" The announcements began and the room quieted down. If you missed the announcements, view them right now!

Mrs. Smith greeted us, went over the daily schedule and homework, and then instructed us to pass up our Lesson 3 vocab. Then, the dreaded vocab quizzes were passed out...oh no! After finishing the first quiz (what a relief) and placing it on the sacred stool, we were allowed to grab a partner and complete the Act 2 Macbeth quiz (double oh no)! Thankfully, everyone made it out alive and we all wondered what absurd vocab activity we would undertake (maybe something to do with mysterious SPAM pictures we printed out).

Mrs. Smith revealed the project: use this week's vocab words to create an advertisement for SPAM that would capture American's interest. What? SPAM is disgusting? Groups formed and the room was filled with laughter and students conversing about how gross SPAM is. The rest of the English class was consumed by the creating of SPAM advertisement posters. The posters are posted on the wall. Check them out! Very original!

Homework: complete the full version of your intro and 1st body paragraph, outline your 2nd body paragraph.   All due Monday!
If you need extra help on your paper, there is Writing Lab next week on Tuesday and Thursday, have a friend or parent edit it, ask for tips from Mrs. Smith, or use Writing Reviser (posted on Mrs. Smith's English 9 Honors page).
