Wednesday, March 21 Period 5

Today, class started with the usual greeting. Then we went over our homework for the night.

  • Homework:
    • Buy your own copy of A Whole New Mind if possible
      • It would be a good idea to read this over spring break if you can
    • DON'T FORGET your Wikified Research Paper Conference

Following homework review, we did the daily grammar.

if we finish our homework we will be able to go to the movie

the girl who sits between anne and me brought her lunch today

aaaaa = dependent clause
aaaaa = independent clause
*Both sentences are complex (Cx) sentences*

Then, we got in groups of 2-3 and took our Romeo and Juliet Act 4 quiz. We started reading Act 5 and finished Scenes 1 and 2. We left off on page 235 (approximately 1/2 of the way through) of Scene 3.

We also talked about the Canadian class visiting us 5th hour on April 3rd. Or as Mrs. Smith says "The Canadians are coming!" If you have 2nd lunch or 4th hour off it would be awesome it you could go in to class early to help set up. The students are planned to arrive at noon. While they are with us, all of the students in class will present different projects done throughout the year. We will be in groups and each group will have a different project. Some of these include:
  • Wonder Woman Vocab Songs
  • Banned Book Movie Trailer
  • Scribe
  • Loggel
  • Google Calender
  • Poetry Work
  • Ned Kelly/Chicago Seven/Marcus Project
  • Fishbowl/Live Blogging
  • Wikified Research Paper
  • Cory Doctorow Skype Session

Period 5 Scribe 3/19/12

Scribe 13/9/12

Hello Smith!

Today we started out by going over who had papers still to grade. After that we all took about 3 minutes to finish up the Shakespeare quiz that we started on Friday. After that we started grammar. The sentences for this week are:

“if we finish our homework we will be able to go to the movie”

“the girl who sits between anne and me brought her lunch today”

When we were finished with grammar we watched act three of the modern Romeo and Juliet. To wrap up class we began reading the next scene where Romeo and Juliet plan out what they are going to do with their unfortunate predicament.

The homework is just grammar and the WRP conferences.

Period 5 Scribe- 3/15/12

Hello everyone!
Class started out pretty normal today by quickly going over homework. Don't forgot about the Wikified Research Conferences! Also be prepared to turn in your grammar worksheet and take the test tomorrow. Smith did tell us that we will probably be taking the Act 3 quiz as well.

It's Thursday so we went over punctuation, capitalization, and diagramming for our DOL.
Here is what the final first sentence should look like:

ind cl                                                                      ind cl                                  It's a compound sentence!
Dem pn.     Lv    art         adj            poss n              n         cc      poss prn    av         prep  poss prn   n/op

S            V                                                 pn                  S         V         prep phrase

Here is what the final second sentence should look like:

Ind Cl                               dep cl                                          It's a Complex Sentence!
N         av          ger            sc            art      n    lv        adj

S          V            DO                                     S       V          pa

We then went on to watch the tableaux vivants on Romeo and Juliet Act 3 Scene 1.  Everyone did really well recreating the scenes!  Shortly after that we jumped right into the reading. We managed to read both scene one and scene two.

Major happenings in Act 3 Scene 1: Mercutio is slain by Tybalt after a series of insults and conflicting opinions. When Romeo seeks revenge, Tybalt is killed as well. The Prince banishes Romeo from Verona after the brawl.

Major happenings in Act 3 Scene 2: Juliet waits for news from the Nurse. The nurse comes and tells Juliet that Tybalt has been killed. Juliet mistakenly believes that Romeo has been killed. Once she learns that it is Tybalt that has been killed, she is happier, but only until she learns that Romeo has been banished from Verona for killing Tybalt. The Nurse informs Juliet that Romeo is hidden at Friar Laurence's cell.

Period 3 Scribe- 3/15/12

"Hello Class! Hello Smith!"

Today we presented our tableaux vivants on Romeo and Juliet Act 3 Scene 1. Delaney and Ruth presented 3.1.1-35, and then Shannon, Monica, Amber, and Alison played 3.1.36-86. Following them, Alex D., Alex B. (or Alex^2 as Smith calls them), and Sean played 3.1.87-122, and after them Grant and I acted 3.1.123-146. James, Annabelle, Jacqueline, and Savannah acted out 3.1.147-214, and Bekah, Macy, Emma, Liz, and Emily also entertained us with 3.1.147-214. We then read over Scene 1 from Act 3, and learned that Mercutio is slain by Tybalt, and when Romeo seeks revenge, Tybalt is killed as well. In result, Romeo is banished from Verona by the Prince.
