Expectations

What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?

  1. First-class qualities in teachers, students, and classes depend greatly on the perspective of he who speculates. When you talk about a magnificent teacher, I automatically think of Mr. Maness, my geometry teacher from Powell. I wish I had him for a class every year of school. He had a great sense of humor, but he also assigned a large amount of work that was challenging to the extent where we were almost off the edge. His great personality helped us stay strong and not break under the pressure of a strenuous workload, which I think every teacher should attempt. By the end of the year, I knew I had become a much better mathematician and learned so much. In addition, great students depend mostly on their comfort with publicity. Smart students who are loud and a riot aren’t much better than any student with less brainpower who is as quiet as a mouse. The intelligence doesn’t matter as much as the person’s tendency to be bold enough to fully participate and give 100% all the time but still is able to quiet down and not bother the class. A good class is one that listens and is ready to learn. A superior class contains several of the students I mentioned above with the stronghold of the admirable teacher I also cited. This class, no matter what the previous grades would be, would absorb so much knowledge and turn out on top when CSAPs and other exams come along.

  2. There are many qulaities in a good teacher. They need to be understanding but not to the point of where they are letting you get away with everything. Another quality that is good in a teacher is humor. I like being able to have fun in class and still get work done. It makes class more enjoyable and it makes students feel more comfortable. However to make a class fun there has to be good qualities in the students as well. A good quality in a student is listening. Being a good listener will help you understand more and you will get clairty on the questions you might have. Personality is also important for students. If you have a good personality class will be better and you will make more friends. Then everyone together makes a class. I like more laid back classes, where everyone is friends and you are still getting work done but it is in a less stressful environment.

  3. I agree with almost all of what you say. My only discrepancy is that with such a non-stressful learning environment, it wouldn't make it seem like much of a high school class. It would be more like the perfect 5th or 6th grade class. Also, too many friends amoung students in the same class could eventually lead to some issues. It may be best to just let them work with people who can also work well in a learning environment

  4. I think that the qualities of a good teacher are someone whose caring, likes to be around kids, can handle noisy teenagers, isn't afraid to speak her mind and has somewhat of a sense of humor. I believe that these characteristics create a really great balance and combination of a great teacher. I think that the qualities of good students are students that work hard, enjoy the subject, can work well in groups and can have fun while doing the work. A nice working environment helps all of the students to work hard and to get their work done faster. The qualities of a good class are quiet and calm working environment, everyone can work together, things get done orderly and quickly, and people get along well. I think that if all of these things come together nicely, we can have a really great class.

  5. To have an enjoyable experience in school there needs to be a standard of qualities in teachers, students, and the overall class. Teachers need to have a special arsenal of qualities such as humor, leadership, and the ability to create a comfortable environment with their students. When a teacher has humor it helps the students feel more comfortable in their class and learning environment. Leadership is in all teachers and is a powerful tool in teaching because it creates respect in their students’ minds. Students need to have a completely different set of qualities to succeed in class. They need to be creative and willing participants in class. Creativity isn’t in every student and is a hard quality to come by; however, creative students are the ones who continue the conversation and ask questions. They are the participants and the ones who make the class special. It’s difficult to have one quality class because each class is different and has its pros and cons. If a class contains creative students, a well-balanced teacher, and a healthy learning environment, everyone will enjoy their time at school.

  6. Most teachers have a common quality that makes them great at what they do; informing and helping the next generation to live up to the expectations set behind by the previous one. But, a great teacher is someone who gets down to the learner's level and tries to apply the knowledge they have learned from experience to the students they are teaching. They strive to raise the bar on educational boundaries and push students farther than ever before to take in the amount of information the world is giving them every day. The teacher gets students college ready, the teacher gets students career ready, the teacher get the students ready for LIFE with the things they do in the classroom to get students involved and connected on a personal level. Additionally, the qualities of a good student are to be open to ideas, pay attention, and get involved inside and outside the classroom. Some students want to stay uniform and not be creative in writing. A good student doesn't just stay isolated and not take part in an activity, but they contribute to ideas that grow to be more than they ever imagined! They receive ideas from classmates to use in literature and grow in creativity and capability in reading and writing. They pay attention to the teacher and are involved with insightful comments on the subject to get other students involved. And, they get involved inside the classroom as well as outside. Instead of keeping all their ideas about literature inside the classroom, they expand their creativity through social media and help the students around them grow long after the school day ends. The qualities of a good class are a combined form of students and a teacher. A good class needs to have a friendly teacher who is open and constantly pressuring the students to go beyond their comfort zone to pursue new things and make connections. A good class also needs to have able students who want to participate, are involved in the lesson, and connect to each other in several ways. But overall, the class needs to cohesively cooperate and act as one to be successful.

  7. I do agree that there are many important qualities in a good teacher; however, there is only one that is a "must-have" in my mind. An all cases, above all else, a good teacher needs to have patience. When I say that, I don't mean the kind of patience one would need with a chatty kindergarten class. (This is a high school class; I think that we should be able to handle that!) When I say patience, I mean the kind that a teacher would need towards a student’s ability to comprehend the subject. Granted, this topic would come up more frequently in a Math class than an English class, however, it would still come up in any classroom setting. I myself have had teachers that aren’t very patient with a student’s ability to comprehend the subject and they move on, leaving the student somewhat behind. I disagree with what Brian had to say, yet I agree all at the same time. I think that a good classroom should not be so stressful that it is dreaded by all of its occupants, but rather enjoyed, and looked forward to. Yet, it should not be so easy that it does not properly prepare the students for the next school year’s challenge. I also disagree with Brian about not having friends in the class. I can see his point of view that eventually having friends in a classroom setting would lead to some disruption; however, I personally can’t work in a setting where there is no one that I am friends with. At that point I become resentful to do my work and ask questions because I am uncomfortable. I think there are two main key components to a good student. One is the ability to ask for help or ask questions when you need it. I have difficulty doing this myself as I am very independent. Also, students should be good listeners be that in the aspect of following instructions, or the other aspect of listening which is being open to other people’s opinions and ideas. I think if we all work together to follow the basic ideas and preferences we all have about a good class and classroom, I think we will have a very successful class and an enjoyable one at that!

  8. For a teacher to be successful in class, I think they should connect with their students and get to know them personally. Teachers should also be capable of keeping the class interesting so the students want to get further involved in the class and the material being studied. Students can help contribute to a successful learning environment as well. By listening and applying what they learn to their own lives, students can make a teacher's life much easier. We should have fun as we learn, but do it in way that helps us progress. As a class, I think it would be helpful for us to get to know each other so we feel comfortable sharing ideas and can ultimately rise to the level of greatness expected from high school students.

  9. Wow, people have very interesting opinions on various qualities they value in a teacher. In my opinion, a "good class" is composed of not only the content being taught, but also the one from whom you learn. Seriously think about it; learning about what you thought was a captivating topic, and surprisingly being bored to tears. A student who is dreading science next block just to find out it’s the best class of the day. What makes that difference? It’s the teacher. It all boils down to the teacher. The ideal teacher never fails to listen to his/her students. The teacher is available. This means during parts of class, ready to help out, after class, after school, therefore no student should fall behind. This goes completely against what I hope for in teachers, but I believe they should take in no excuses from irresponsible kids. Although, a responsible, trustworthy kid who has a true, innocent reason of missing an assignment should be felt for, and a fair make-up schedule should be used. Also, humor is a deal breaker in terms of perfect teachers. Most times, it can even settle nerves while explaining a demanding project. All teachers can be funny, but the perfect ones balance that with serious work. It is tricky to get perfect students, but sometimes you just manage to come across one. Ironically, characteristics of good students somewhat match the qualities of a good teacher. They can be humorous, and maybe even make quick, funny comments, but can also balance that with serious learning. Good students have a teacher who listens to them, but the student also listens to the teacher. I know that rarely one comes across a perfect student in a perfect class with a perfect teacher, but we can all strive to get as near to that as we possibly can.

  10. There are many different perspectives on what exactly a great teacher has to offer. It depends entirely upon the individual. For some, a great teacher might be the one who inspires, who is easy to relate to. Students who take this point of view are perhaps self-advocating and they are the ones who seek out a challenge and who thrive when they are granted one. They have a more mature way of thinking when they prefer the educator who may not be the easiest and give out the least amount of workload, but the one who prepares them for higher levels of thinking and bigger challenges. This is the teacher I would like to have. For others, who are not as mature, and don't see the greater, hidden benefits, their ideal teacher is one who is a pushover. The teacher who either is too distracted to realize the students aren't doing what they're supposed to do or "too cool to care". Or the one who they say:"Doesn't give very much homework"...and "you don't even have to do anything in that class, they don't even care or notice" I have quickly realized that with the path I want to go down in High School, College, and my Career, I need to work hard to acheive my goals and live the lifestyle I want to live. Like I mentioned earlier, a good student is hardworking, perseverent, and will go the extra mile even if it means "pushing themself nearly off the edge, but never over it". And a good class, is made up of these very students. However, in my ideal class, each and every student in the class has their very own unique quatlities and insights to offer. That way the class will be very successful, but in unique, unexpected ways. Although today was our first day ever as a class, I can already tell that all of the positive adjectives and habits I talked about earlier apply to English 9 Honors, Period 5, Room C11. Our class is an environment that is: Comfortable, Mature, Insightful, Fun,and Successful to the best of our ability. It is an environment that I want to be a part of as a learner and add my own unique thinking to.

  11. In order for a teacher to be successful, they need to be patient, have a willingness to help, and have good people skills. The reason for patience is that they will be spending the day in a classroom full of kids that will be loud and obnoxious and they need to handle that. They also need to be willing to help any student that is struggling or just wants to learn more. But mostly they need people skills so they can talk to students and have listen to them as a person of respect. A good student will be attentive and willing to learn. If a student is willing to learn they will work hard and learn well, which will lead to the second trait, attentiveness. A classroom has to have students who are willing to learn and help each other rise to the occasion or level of expectation. While still being guided by a great teacher.

  12. Great qualities in teachers and students depend on the person who is being asked. However, in my opinion, good teachers love to help kids learn and grow in understanding their subject. A good student listens to their teacher as they teach them about not only the subject of the course, but the subject of life. I completely agree with Brian when he states, “The intelligence doesn’t matter as much as the person’s tendency to be bold enough to fully participate and give 100% all the time but still is able to quiet down and not bother the class.” This is what shows a true successful student. If a student were to be the most obnoxious person on Earth but they calmed down enough to care about the class and to give their best, then they would be not just any student, but a good student. A teacher who is good will not only teach the subject, and teach it well, but will also care about the children they are so freely handing their knowledge to. A top notch teacher will take time out of their busy schedule to help the great student (that also took time out of their schedule to come see them) to better understand the subject. The most important quality in both a teacher and a student is their sense of commitment.

  13. Great teachers are very difficult to come by because there are many components that must come together to make an educator excellent. They must have a perfect balance of everything. They have to be masters of the content they are teaching. This is generally never an issue. They must be passionate about what they are teaching. This happens more often than not as well. They must be passionate about who they’re teaching to. They must like teenagers and be able to communicate with us on our level. While many students, honors in particular, are able to communicate with teachers on the teacher’s terms, it often makes students feel more comfortable and understand better if the communication is familiar to them. Tools like this blog, Skype, e-mail, and online assignments can be very helpful in this regard. Teachers must be able to have fun! If all they do is lecture constantly in monotone and never joke around or change things up, the environment becomes so mundane that we will get bored and learning will be more difficult. Teachers must make themselves available. Students need to be allowed to come forward and ask questions on things they don’t understand without fear of retribution. When a teacher finds the right balance of these attributes, they can create a safe, fun learning environment that will be beneficial to both the teacher and the student.

However, it is not all on the teacher. Students need to contribute to making a good learning environment as well. To be successful a student has to be giving 100% 100% of the time. They need to find a way be passionate, or at least connect with, what they are learning as well. They need to participate in class. In so much of school, language arts in particular, so much can be learned by hearing what others think. It can give you a whole new perspective. If students aren’t willing to or don’t feel comfortable sharing what they think, a great opportunity is lost. Students need to always be prepared. This means that they have their supplies, their homework is done, they’ve read everything they were assigned, and they come to class ready. So much time and opportunity is wasted by being unprepared. Students need to be willing to do their best work in all kinds of situations. They need to be able to excel on tests, as well as in discussions. They need to work well in groups and through multimedia projects. They need to be ready to try new ways of learning and working, while still doing the best they possibly can.

A balance of a great teacher and a great student is rare, but once it has been achieved you can learn more than you ever imagined possible.

  14. Teachers/administrators, students, and classes are the three main components that form a decent school. Without one of these necessary groups, the school as a whole would not function smoothly and chaos would be spread through the hallways. Teachers are viewed as aliens; they have no life besides grading papers and they were never a kid so they don’t get us. I believe to be an influential facilitator, you have to be able to grasp the views of a crazy, hormonal teenager. Put yourself in our shoes and adapt to the way we operate. To prove you are not such a terrifying creature, share stories of your own personal life (but not too much), connect with your students, and engage yourself in a friendly, one-on-one conversation with a student about his/her happenings. Us students can turn into wild banshees at times, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t interested in discovering new information. A student has to be willing and ready to learn. They have to show this by coming prepared to class, listening to the teacher and other students, offering their own input, and most importantly doing their homework. What do you get when you combine a teacher and students? A class! There are two parts of a class, the environment and the people in it. The all important classroom needs to be warm and inviting because no one wants to to walk into a room from a horror film. Everyone in this classroom has to cooperate and work well with one another. A positive energy is a must and each person in the room needs to give respect and receive respect. With these useful tips, a functional and fun school is formed. All these posts are so insightful and I enjoy reading them to find a new point of view. Each one is unique and none of them are wrong. I can’t wait to learn more about the people around me!

  15. I think that teachers need to have a good balance between being firm and being fair. They should be understanding of their students, making sure to be thorough but also to have a likeable personality. It is important that the teacher can relate to their students and the stundents can relate to their teacher. A good student is someone who will take responsilbility for their education by folllowing through, asking question and becoming involved and really thinking about what is being taught. A good class is one that is respectful of others and willing ton participate amd bounce ideas off of one another.

  16. There are a myriad of qualities of an outstanding teacher. However some of the most important qualities are passion, leadership, classroom management, and helpfulness. Teachers serve several roles and each requires certain qualities. It is necessary for teachers to accommodate the academic, and social needs for us. A very important factor for a good teacher is definitely having a passion for teaching. Without it, they wouldn't be as willing and eager to help us as students. Also, qualities of a good student are attitude, willingness to learn, and self-discipline. A good student possesses the ability and willingness to learn new subjects even if they are not interesting. That is very important in a student. Also, a good student has to be willing to learn. Being willing to learn allows yourself to pick up the techniques needed in order to work properly, and when the job environment changes, it can be beneficial to willingly change and accommodate his/her self to new methods. A very good example is a student who always does their homework on time, has all of the supplies necessary, and makes up work the day or days they were gone, so they are prepared for class when they get back. Discipline in managing the time is an important factor that every good student must possess. Often times, delaying the tasks, such as writing assignments, reading text books, etc, may negatively impact the ability of a student to achieve the goals. Finally, a good classroom requires encouragement from each other, students helping one another, and a place where everyone feels comfortable. When everyone is encouraged, they are more willing to learn. It also relieves stress from work in class and homework. In addition, When a student is stuck or needs help, they should be willing and comfortable to help or be helped one another. The more you get to know someone, the more pleasant it would be to work with someone else!

  17. I believe that the qualities of good teachers are to encourage their students, push their students to do their very best, teach their students how to do something, but not what to do, make learning enjoyable, and always be willing to offer help.

Good students in turn need to listen, learn for life, be willing to ask for help, be organized, be driven to succeed, have fun, and have a positive outlook.

A good class is a class that wants to and enjoys learning, does not complain about the work they are required to do, does not hinder their classmates’ learning, and a class that works well together.

  18. The positive qualities that show in a good class reflect on the positive qualities that the students have and the teacher has, as well. I believe that what makes a teacher outstanding is how they interact with their students and how they build around the needs of the kids, too. A teacher that can easily adapt and construct their lessons to directly help the students is, in my eyes, a great teacher. Now, what makes good students is actually very different. Students should help each other and not be afraid to be adventurous. Which, in turn, means coming in for lunch for the extra help needed. A class, has to be willing to ask for help, give help, and suggest help for other students. WIth positive energy floating around positive learning will take place, resulting in a healthier school community. Good students are eager students; people that actually want to be in class. If the students/class is eager, the teacher must be equally passionate to be there. A proper class is made up of students, who are eager and willing, and a teacher, who is eager and willing. Overall, those two key concepts are the foundation of any efficient, positive working class.

  19. There are many qualities that a teacher needs to be “good.” But, what a teacher needs to achieve greatness is the quality of taking time individually with students so that the student can understand the material that the teacher is covering. For me, the teacher has to go the extra mile in explaining things to be great. The teacher, to be great, needs to care about each student. I know when I feel cared about, I perform on a much high level.
There are many qualities, in my opinion, of a good student. A good student has to be willing to try his/her hardest in and outside of the class in order to receive a good grade. A good student to me is one who receives a good grade in the class. They earn this grade by studying hard and doing the right thing, such as not cheating, plagiarizing, or copying work.
A good class consists of students willing to work together and support each other. A good class has a good teacher teachers good students that want to grow in knowledge.

  20. I believe a good teacher has many qualities, but the ones that have stood out to me and taught me the most are the ones who really pushed me to my potential. It may not have been enjoyable, but I benefitted in the long run. In eighth grade, I had several teachers who taught me how to challenge what I know and even to challenge the academic system. Specifically, my science teacher last year told me that a good student doesn’t always have to “play school”. Trying to think how their students think is also an important quality in instructors. An outstanding student has to be willing to work with teachers and to push themselves. So many intelligent students fall behind because they won’t, or can’t, apply themselves properly. Similarly, a class has to push and motivate each other to succeed. As a whole, a class cannot improve without support from within. Teachers, students, and classes simply cannot achieve their potential without pushing the limits.

  21. My opinion of a "good teacher" varies greatly from subject to subject. There may be no generic rule on what qualities a teacher must posses to be deemed a good teacher, but I believe a good teacher must have a passion for the subject that they teach, truly want the students to succeed and understand material, and maybe even enjoy whatever subject they are learning about. Good qualities in a student, however, are pretty set in stone. A good student must do their best 100% of the time, be eager and ready to learn new concepts, and always be prepared for whatever comes their way. On what makes a good class, I truly believe it is a 50/50 effort. The teacher is responsible for putting out information and exciting new concepts to engage and teach their students to the best of their ability. The student's part of the deal is interacting and absorbing the new information, and giving feedback to the teacher to make sure that they know the subject and are thoroughly prepared. In my opinion, these three distinct variables create a optimal and educational environment for all those who want to learn.

    ReplyDelete
  22. To have a successful learning environment you need to have students, teachers and the administration all working together toward the common goal of a better education. A teacher is successful when they are teaching all there students as much as they can in a way that the students can connect to and that they will remember. In my opinion a great teacher is made when a teacher is able to connect with their students and is adaptable to the different ways each student learns. A great teacher is also one who has a passion for the subject they are teaching. If a teacher is truly passionate then the students will be able to see that and be more motivated. The attitude of the teacher will determine the attitude of the class. With that being said there is still a critical role the students play to create successful learning environment. The students first off need to respect their teacher and administrators. Also the students must be open minded at the start of everyday and be willing to learn. A truly great student is not necessarily the one who gets the best grades but it is the student who never shops trying and always gives one hundred and fifty percent. Teachers can’t read minds so it is very important that students take their learning career seriously and ask for help when they need it. With this combination of teachers and students the classroom should be extremely successful.

  23. I believe that good students and teachers share some of the same qualities. Both have to work hard, have good time management skills, work well with others, and pay attention. To get the most out of a class, you have to not only have a good teacher, but also good students. Every student is unique, I believe this allows the opportunity to see things from a new perspective. The same can be said for teachers. A good teacher considers the various learning styles of their students and presents materials to engage all audiences. By people sharing their thoughts, it allows others to understand and obtain more information, enhancing their knowledge. When everyone gets involved, works hard, and positively supports one another, there can be an amazing opportunity for everyone to learn and get the most out of class.

  24. The title of "a good teacher" is given to someone who is passionate about what they do. This not only means that they thoroughly enjoy the subject that they teach, but he or she also strives to spark an identical flame in his or her pupils. Whether this means giving an eager student the proper base to rise to greatness, or just assisting one in the relief of passing the class, a great teacher is always aware and understanding of a student's needs.

As is the case with many descriptions, the meaning of a good student varies depending on the person it is describing. In a student, either hard work, or the end result of a class(grades), define his or her caliber. For example, a student that has a C in each class, yet spends hours a day at the library studying, can be considered a good student. On the other hand, a student that aces every assignment and exam, yet never studies, can also be classified as stellar.

A good class, in my opinion, is one which is willing to work as a tight-knit community. Cooperation is a key part to this, as the sharing and accepting of others' ideas can lead to a breakthrough in thinking. As individuals, each student should be willing to participate and interact with his or her peers, unafraid to express his opinion. Together, these attributes result in a well-oiled team that has the opportunity to learn more than the minimum in class.

  25. In my opinion, a teacher needs several qualities to be considered "good". It's important that a teacher actually wants to be there with their students. (Even if they don't, they should at least act like it!) In the past, I've had teachers that do not possess such an attitude, and it really takes away from the learning experiences of the students. A good teacher must also be able to put themselves in the shoes of their students. If they can try and see things from their perspective, then I think both teacher and pupil will get more out of the learning experience. Of course, the above qualities also apply to the students. A good student needs to have a want to participate and maintain a good attitude on top of allowing themselves to think about how their teachers are feeling. I think the latter will definitely be able to help a student improve their outlook of class. Good students will also need to focus on themselves and their needs when it comes to their education. High school is about your future, so make adjustments if you're not getting the most out of it! The most important thing about having a good and functional class is that everyone makes an effort to work in harmony and those in it will keep their minds open to new ideas.

  26. In my opinion, good qualities of a teacher would include someone who is understanding and willing to work with their students individually to make sure they understand the material. Some other good qualities in a teacher would be when they have good character and charisma to not only prepare you for you future, but to make sure you're enjoying yourself along the way.
My favorite teacher was indeed my favorite because she could treat everyone as equals, and bring laughter and joy in the classroom with her vibrant stories. She also had respect from all her pupils so when it was time to be more vigilant and disciplined with work, we were eager to comply.

To be a good student shouldn't mean being the one who has straight A's in all of their work, or is very well behaved in everything he or she does. I believe to be a good student, you have to put your absolute best effort into all your work and try your hardest. An 'A' as a grade should not define you, the best success I've ever had was by failing and redeeming myself as fervently as I could. I also think that by showing personality through your work, is another way to connect with different material along the way. And if that means that showing your passion or anger or any other emotion that surfaces whilst learning about a subject to have a deeper understanding and appreciation, then that's what you should do.

To feel safe and comfortable in an environment is definitely a great feeling to have. It's also a great attribute to have for a class. When you have a supportive community who won't judge or make you feel insecure, I find it is so much easier to put yourself out there and answer questions, make deeper connections, and do your best work. Because when you spend your time worrying about what the class will think, you fail to remember whose opinion matters the most.

  27. A good teacher needs to have many qualities. For me, I believe that they should be very open minded, and not so set in their ways that they are not open to new ideas. I also believe that they should be aproachable and let the students know that it is ok, even encouredgeable, to come in with questions, or to try and get extra help on material they don't understand. A teacher should rule with a firm hand and not let their students run amuck in the classroom, but they also shouldn't be so strict as to not let any of their student enjoy their class. They should try to encourage their students to brannch out and try new things, as well as helping them to reach their goals. Then there are always the teachers that insist upon babysitting you. The ones who read through everything as a class, and then reiterate again and again. I think these teachers don't let one experience anything by themselves, or have to find a solution without the aid of someone else. An the teachers who are so strict and have their beliefs, the only ones they'll accept. They don't let their students learn from experience or try to find other ways to do things. A teacher who can find a happy medium between these is the kind of teacher I'd like to take a class with. A good student needs to be accepting, willing to try new things, andcapable of seeing things from a nother persons' point of view. Willing to accept any workload or new idea thrust upon them, willing to try something they have never attempted before, and willing to give up their fight for a moment and see what another person is seeing. Which means a good class should be composed of perservering and accepting students. They should be able to participate in class and to use the best of their abilities to do well. They shuld be able to all offer different ideas and perspectives on something. This way everbody will be giving something special to the class

  28. To me, the qualities of a good teacher are defined by her class. If you walk into a teacher’s classroom and their class is yelling and screaming and bouncing off the walls then you would know that she has bad qualities. In general the best qualities of a teacher are to be a fun but strict teacher. A fun teacher is a good teacher because if a teacher is fun then it is usually easier for a student to learn in a fun and exciting environment. The best qualities of a student are to study and work very hard at school, but a good student also needs to know that is okay to relax and have some fun. A class is not just students, but also the teacher, the environment, and the mood of the room. A teacher needs to know when it is time to stop messing around. A student needs to know that school is serious and fun at the same time. The environment needs to be exciting and the the mood needs to be relaxed.

  29. A good teacher is someone who can teach to the level of each individual student. For example, my fifth grade teacher taught in a classroom that had ‘no ceiling’. She would teach the curriculum, but she wouldn’t stop there. If a student had more potential in math, she would challenge them with extra math games and concepts. When a student needed to grow more in writing, she would teach different ways to use description, voice, and organization. I agree with Alex when he says that a good teacher should have humor. Humor relaxes the environment and makes students be more comfortable with sharing. It shows that the teacher is treating us as responsible individuals who are capable of having fun while they work. Correspondingly, if the teacher treats us as responsible teens, the students have a responsibility to do their best work every day. Good students challenge each other to their full potential while being supportive of each others work. They show effort on every assignment and have a thirst to learn. Just as Alison said, good students need to listen to each other and the teacher. They should grow into a united whole that forms a good class. A good class works together to form a hardworking, successful community. When the classroom has a welcoming, positive atmosphere, it is most likely to succeed. When the students and teacher are focused on the future and the skills to get you there, it shows the makings of a good class. A good class has a teacher who involves humor in her teaching while challenging each individual and students who can listen and challenge each other.

  30. As Shannon said above, it really is hard to come across a good teacher because there are many separate components that make a good teacher. For instance, I believe a teacher must teach the class. There really is no use of taking a class where the teacher doesn't give you any homework or lets you goof around or text your friends all day. The teacher must teach you the right things in the right way because, to paraphrase what the video said today, the world is always changing. Some of us will have a job that doesn't exist yet and has to face problems that haven't occurred yet. Going into a world like that where your only skill is texting really fast is very, very bad. At the same time the teacher has make the class engaging for the students. Whether it's taking them on a field trip or simply making a joke during one of the lessons will keep students interested in the topic and they will also be having fun. I had a science teacher in 6th and 8th grade (no names) that made every class horribly boring. He would talk and we would listen. Half the time I learned some valuable lessons about science, the other half I learned some invaluable lessons about counting sheep. Lastly, a teacher has to be positive. Being positive in and out of class can be great for some students who may have spent all day being bullied. You can keep the class exciting and fun, but at the same time teaching them. It's hard to do but it's worth it for the students and the teacher themselves.

Students have a responsibility too. If you're going to goof around all class and not listen to the teacher's lessons then you are wasting your time and the teacher's time. In class try to interact with the teacher without interrupting him/her when they are talking. Be friendly to your teacher, don't be hostile for no reason. Be eager to learn because if you don't you'll regret it.
Finally, just like Emma said, when a good teacher combines with good students you get a good class. A class where the teacher is teaching the students lessons while being friendly, positive, and engaging. The students are being respectful to him or her but are still having a good time in class. It's kind of like a puzzle, all of the pieces are small at first but when you combine them you can create a very cool or funny or serious picture.

  31. If both the teacher and the students have good qualities, then the class will be great. A teacher with good qualities should know her students on a personal level and know how they learn and at what pace. I also think that it is extremely imported also for the students to be able to approach the teacher easily to ask questions. This way, the teacher knows how they comprehended that lesson for the day and the student then understands the lesson. A teacher who knows at what pace the students learn at is a good quality teacher. A good quality student must work hard. In this way, they will be giving it their all because the teacher will do he/she's best at teaching. Also, a quality student needs to be able to pay attention and connect ideas. The most important quality both teachers and students must share is respect. The students must respect the teacher and each other. Together, a quality teacher and quality students will make a quality class.

  32. Teachers and students may seem very different but are the same when it comes to being great. To be great students and teachers both must be patient, practice, and be willing. Patience is key to being great because when something gets hard, students and teachers can’t give up. While teaching a class a new idea, it may be frustrating trying to get the idea across, but with a bit of patience, teachers can strive to have every single student learn what is being said. Students on the other hand must also have patience because learning something new is hard too. When a student doesn’t understand at first, they must try harder and work to understand, which at times can be frustrating. Students and teachers must also practice. Students must practice the skills that are being taught in order to fully understand. Teachers must practice new teaching skills. Teachers can’t always teach the same way because not everything should be learned the same way. With practice, teachers can teach in the most efficient way. Lastly, teachers and students must be willing. Teachers must be willing to learn new thing too. Even the teacher will be learning new things every day. They have to be willing to be open to new ideas. Students must be willing to learn. If the teacher is talking, the students must listen. Classes are made up of teacher and students. Therefore to make a class great, both teacher and students must have patience, practice, and willingness.

  33. I believe some qualities that should be found in all teachers are patience, kindness, and a strong will and commitment to teach and learn. The first quality, patience, is needed in all teachers because not all students learn at the same pace. Patience allows the teacher to help the student at the pace that is best for them. I also believe a teacher should be kind. Kindness is a quality that everyone appreciates. A kind teacher can make a student's day easier and, in my personal experience, it makes the student more willing to learn and achieve academic success. The final and possibly the most important quality in a teacher is a commitment to not only teach, but to learn as well. If the teacher only lectures, they will learn nothing, but if the teacher teaches with a passion, they will learn from their students and gain their love and respect.
A good student, in turn, needs to listen and obey instructions, want to succeed, and they should be attentive in their studies. In order to go far in their lives, a student must learn that sometimes it is better to listen then to speak. Epictetus once said, "We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak." I think that this applies not only in the classroom, but in our everyday lives as well. We have to learn to listen before we can learn anything else. The student must also obey instructions because without them they will be lost. In addition, a student must also want to succeed because without this drive they will not go far, but with it they can achieve many things. Finally, a student must be attentive in their studies. This includes not bothering their other classmates and allowing them to work. If a student is attentive in their studies, they will find school much more enjoyable, then if they had slacked off and not completed their assignments.
Finally, a good class should have unity, respect for their teacher, and a willingness to help one another. If a class has unity, they work better as a team and they get along better with each other. A class should also have respect for their teacher. This means that they listen when the teacher talks and they turn in their assignments on time. If they turn in their assignments late it shows that they don't care what their teacher said and that it means nothing to them. Last, but not least, a class should have a willingness to help each other. This will make everyone's lives easier because they always know that someone is willing to help them when they need it and that their fellow students will stick with them to the end.

  34. There are many qualities that a great teacher could possess. Most teachers that I have had in my lifetime have been great, but only bordering on the edge of perfection. One such teacher would be Mr. Maness. The ability to push a student to the edge, but not over it is a great quality indeed. Some people may say he was their favorite teacher and that he was perfect, I respectfully disagree. The sort of "Scrooge" personality that Mr. Maness portrays may deter students from wanting to ask questions or seek help, negatively impacting a student’s learning. The sort of teacher that everyone wants to have, is most definitely not the best. A teacher that is strict and able to make a student try their absolute best, but not afraid to crack a joke once in a while, would be the perfect teacher for me.

  35. There are many qualities of a good teacher. The most important one for me personally is when they take time to make sure you are acing their class. It means a lot to me when a teacher actually cares about what you are writing instead of grading it and never think about your paper again.
Some qualities of a great student include their full effort in everything they do in and out of class. You need to be responsible and if you miss class one day, its your responsibility to check Arapahoe website and make your work up, not the teacher's.
Classes need to work together to learn. If one person is slacking, that means the whole class is slacking because we are all a team and in order to learn you all need to be on the same pace.
The main quality of a teacher, student, and class is the same. Always give 100 percent effort.

  36. I believe that these are four of the most important qualities of good teachers: Empathy, patience, passion, and a sense of humor. When teachers show empathy, students feel less obligated to spend time on homework when there may be an important emergency situation that they need to attend to. Patience is important in helping a student fully understand a concept. Everyone learns at a different pace, and a teacher that is patient will graciously take the time to work with even the slowest learners. Student’s sense when a teacher has a passion for teaching. It becomes contagious, which inspires motivation within the students. If a teacher has a good sense of humor, it makes them more approachable and can lighten certain situations. A good student is motivated, persistent, and organized. Motivation results in timely, high quality work, and a desire to learn. A persistent student never gives up, even after being knocked down. Being organized means keeping track of when assignments are due, and keeping papers in their right places. This allows the student to focus on learning. Respect for everyone in the class (teacher included), and participation create a better learning environment. Respect brings peace to the classroom by not interrupting anyone, and allows discussions to be held without arguing. Participation brings up different viewpoints, creating more thoughtful conversation. All of these things together make up an extremely successful classroom.

  37. There are many ingredients in the recipe for an amazing class experience. To achieve the ideal learning experience, you need a good teacher, an eager student, and a cooperative and dynamic class.

The main must-have qualities for a good teacher are understanding and listening, a good sense of humor, certain strictness, and a passion for their work.
The number one thing I need a teacher to have is the ability to understand and listen to me. Many teachers I've had would not even let me ask a question or talk to them, and this prevented me from learning. Even if the teacher is not able to accommodate my need, at least they listened to what I had to say.
The second and third qualities that makes a good teacher is a sense of humor and passion. I have always hated and been less motivated about classes where the teacher never told a joke or did not care about their work.
I also need a teacher to have a certain amount of strictness. Not like an army drill, but a teacher who can let me know what they want and help me to understand when I did not comply with their expectations.

The next thing is a good and eager student. For this, students need to always try to be positive. If they think they can, they can. If they think they can't, they can't. They also must clear things up if they are confused, and be willing to learn, even if they don't like the idea at first.

The last thing for a good academic experience is a good, dynamic class. A class needs to respect, listen and encourage each other.

All of these things combined make up a good learning environment.

  38. The qualities of a good teacher are caring, diligent, trust worthy and having the passion for learning and the willingness to share and teach those around them. A teacher should be prepared for anything and have a personality that is ready to except a variety of comfort levels and strength and weakness. A teacher should have an attitude that makes student’s feel comfortable and safe to share. They should have the desire to push always students to the best of their ability and help them overcome challenges that may arise. The qualities of a good student are organized, caring, open-minded, disciplined and engaged. A good student is always ready for class with all the materials they need and is always prepared for all challenges. A good student will be aware of those around them and watches out for students who may be struggling and need help. They are excited to work with new ideas and techniques that will enhance their learning experience and give them depth and perspective to their thoughts and ideas. Finally, being a disciplined and engaged learner is the key to understanding and comprehending material. An engaged learner will be able to take every detail in to push beyond their comfort level. The qualities of a good class are respect, unity, discipline and caring. A good class will respect everyone’s insight and perspective and give kind advice to those who ask for it. When a class is unified they have a feeling of comfort and safety that allows them to share with each other and expand their horizons through other’s comments. A good class works hard and has an environment that will invite positive learning. When we strive to have all of the qualities as a class, we can accomplish great things!

  39. A good teacher is marked by a certain set of characteristics that make them "good," including leadership, passion, a quit wit, and desire to help their students achieve their full potential. Leadership is important to gain the respect of students. Passion is needed to dedicate one's self to affecting the lives of students. Wittiness is key to being a good teacher, specifically a good high school teacher, because it makes students respect a teacher not only as their teacher but like them as a person. The most important attribute, however, is the desire to help students. Without this from every teacher, students will not reach their full potential.

A good student is willing to listen, watch, accept new ideas, and most importantly learn. Without listening to a teacher, class time is wasted by a student. Without watching a teacher, a student may miss important demonstrations. Without willingness to accept new ideas a student is unable to think at a higher level and carry on group discussions. But, listening to and watching a teacher is useless if a student is unwilling to learn.

A combination of support and mutual respect between "good teachers" and "good students" is the key to a "good class." Without support from peers and the teacher a student is unable to speak his or her opinion. Mutual respect is also essential to a successful class, without respect, support is impossible.

  40. Most teachers as well as students goal in their school environment life is to work with their class in harmony. There is only a few ways to successfully accomplish this, but the most important way to do this is by having superb qualities.

A teacher needs to come to school everyday and be ready to listen to what the student is saying, as well as to have a good sense of humor but be strict at the same time, and also just to be friendly. When I go up to a teacher I really want them to listen to what I say instead of just nodding their head and smiling. Its important to the teacher to be able to get through to his/her pupils. Teachers should always have a good sense of humor, but not to the extent where there's no discipline. Students can get the wrong idea with only one word out of the teachers mouth. When there's only discipline in the air though it makes the atmosphere uncomfortable. The last quality a teacher needs is to be friendly with all of the students. We all know that most teachers have their favorites, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be friendly to everyone! Obvious favoritism is not enjoyed by the rest of the class. Students as well need key qualities to get along with the teacher and their classmates. Students should be able to listen, have respect for everyone, and try their best everyday. Without listening to what the teacher is saying the student wont understand the lesson, will disrupt the class, and just be plain rude. Even though we all do it sometimes, its really not in anyones best interest to continually do it. Students should also show that they not only should have respect for themselves, but for the class too. Whether this means being disruptive and talking in class, or making fun of someone its all wrong and students should know when enough is enough. The last quality a student needs is to give their all everyday in the work and effort they put into school. Slackers are not appreciated. They not only bring themselves down but sometimes bring others down too. If a teacher and student combine all of these qualities together, the classroom environment would be absolutely perfect and have a fantastic balance of everything!

  41. A good teacher needs to not always act like a Navy Seal. We're in high school we all know that if we don't get our work done we will have to face the ugly consequences. Because if you drill into our heads that we need to get our work done fast we will forget "Quality vs. Quantity"

A good student has to be a friend, but friendly to the point of not getting work done. Because we all know what happens when we do a project with your best friend. They also need to be kind hearted, nobody likes the stereotypical “oh what you get on your test” kind of person. It's fine by me if you get an A+ on a paper just don’t come rub it in my face when you know I didn't do so well, because most likely when you’re just trying to impress people everyone is going to hate you.

We all know the feeling when you have to get up in front of a class to read a report and you just see all eyes on you and you feel everyone is going to judge you for every word that comes out of your mouth. Well they shouldn't. A good class has to be understanding of each other’s mistakes because most likely we all make the same ones. They have to support you but not to the extent were it just gets annoying.

  42. Qualities that make up a good teacher consist of a variety of things. Teachers should be understanding about the students “out of school” life. They should be nice and make class fun. If the class is fun then chances are more students will be attentive and wanting to learn. They should also know when to quiet the class down and when to lecture them. All of these qualities will create a great teacher.
Qualities that make up good students also consist of many things. Students should be respectful and willing to listen to the teacher. They should be nice to one another and help each other out when need be. Students should almost always have their homework done, why not? They should have a sense of humor but know when to be quiet. All of these qualities can create good students. I also feel that these qualities would create a good class. Except for that the class should work together and have fun.

  43. I believe that a good teacher is someone who is understanding of a students personal learning situation. Someone who is willing to help a student out and take their own personal time to reach out to a student and show them different ways of addressing problems the student may be having. Any teacher who is willing to do this for a student is a good teacher in my eyes.

A good class is a class who is supportive and not judging of a persons idea. A class that will let a person stand up and present an idea that may be different or unusual and accept and maybe embrace that idea is a great class. A class has to be able to listen and put themselves in each others shoes to be a good class.

A good student in my eyes is someone who is dedicated and responsible. This student must know what kind of responsibilities he/she has taken on and must be able to calmly handle them. This student must be dedicated and also willing to accept help. That is what I believe is a good student.

  44. The qualities of a good teacher are a mixture of multiple different traits. One of these is teachers should stretch the understanding and comprehension of the student's mind. With this comes questioning the students on discussion and possibly controversial topics to expand the wisdom or familiarity of a given subject. Students should be willing to opinions of their peers to build onto their own self beliefs to become more familiar of the different sides of discussions. For a sufficient class, the students and teacher need to set their standards and goals on the most important aspect of what school is about: "our future". As long as everybody is respectful and ready to learn, the class will thrive.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The are many things that can make a school the best it can be. First the teachers and administration have to know what there doing and know how to do it. Without these qualities a school can never be its best. A teacher also needs to; as Monica said; know how to stretch the comprehension of the student's mind. They also need to know how to make a safe and enjoyable environment for learning. If a teacher can do this everyday, then the students should do great.

The students also have to contribute to the learning environment to make it the best it can be. By participating, being respectful and having a good attitude towards learning, they can improve the learning of themselves and others.

A good classroom combines both of the above. With a good teacher and good students, the class can excel. A class also needs to be able to communicate. If they can't communicate then some people may stay with their opinions on a certain topic forever. When a class can communicate then a higher level of thinking can happen.

  46. Qualities of a good teacher is someone who is not only patient but passionate. They must love what they do as a teacher and want to help their students not only learn more but to be better people. They must be willing to help whenever it is needed and be there to answer all questions. They have to think not only about how it applies to the class that day, but also how it will apply for the student that day and in their future. They are also someone who is involved in their student’s lives. They are someone who can have a conversation with them about something non school related and at the same time, be able to bring themselves and their past stories in to their teaching. They need to become more than a teacher. They need to be more than two dimensional. They need to have personality and connect with their students not only as a teacher, but as a friend. A good student is going to look different for everybody so I would say that a good student is truly who you are. It’s taking who you are on the inside, your true character, and bring it out and putting it into everything that you do. Of course, you will need to do the things that every adult in your life has told you. To study, pay attention in class, all that stuff, but instead of being boring, they need to have fun and have a personality just as a teacher. Also, as a teacher needs to be passionate about teaching, a good student must be passionate about learning. A good class again is going to look different in each class but one thing they must have is unity. They must be able to work together and problem solve as a whole, but on the opposite side of that, they must also be able to question each other. A good class needs to be able to learn, not just from what the teacher tells them, but by the people around them.

  47. A good teacher is someone who is passionate about their job. Too many times teachers come to school having a dull look on their face. It sends one message to their students, "I'm not here for you." When students see that, they don't try hard, don't participate, and don't succeed. They don't receive the same great education that the kids with the passionate teacher down the hall get . However, students also need to be accountable and take charge of their education. They need to get help, study, and push themselves harder and harder each year. Only accountable, trustworthy students will reach the top. The others will simply never get there. Something that help students with their learning expirience is a good class. A good class is respectful, has goals, and wants to lift each other up. With all of that, classes will be able to produce great scholars who will change the world. To conclude, teachers and students make up a class. However, it is the good teachers and the good students who will create the perfect learning environment.

  48. Often the qualities desired in teachers are the same ones we yearn for in any person- to be kind, loving, understanding of ones mistakes, patient, and hundreds of others. Just as important qualities of being a student are to be attentive, dedicated to learning, teachable, willing to learn from our mistakes, and so on. Concluding with the necessary virtues to become a great class are a combination of all above. To become THE great class that everyone talks about, it takes both the effort of the teacher and the students working together and respecting one another to succeed.

  49. A "good"teacher in my opinion had many qualities or characteristics that make them a good teacher. I believe a good teacher is someone who's passionate about teaching and loves coming to school every day to teach. They come into class in a good mood and crack some jokes during class making it fun to learn. A good teacher also takes the time to explain the assignment to the class and if needed helps the students out individually. I also agree with Troy that the teacher needs to care about you and in doing so needs to push you to do your greatest. Of course they need to be respectful, nice, considerate, and many other things but I feel these qualities are most important.

I think that the students need to try hard to be good students as well to make learning easy and fun. A good student is respectful to the teacher and their classmates, very helpful and very determined and ready to learn. Basically the student needs to act like a teacher so that the learning environment is peaceful and calm. Anyone can be a good student you just have to act like the teacher is your mom or your dad and treat them how you want to be treated.

A good successful class is a combination of a good teacher and a class full of good students. With good students and a good teacher the class can function without any interruptions making it easy for everyone to learn. One major qualify for a class to have is good communication. With good communication students and teachers can have conversations on topics and can here each others ideas. If the class can communicate than they can push each other to do better and better making the entire class excel as a group. With these qualities not only is the class a good class but it is fun and welll help you become the best person you can possibly be.

  50. I agree with most all of the answers already up here. There are so many good qualities needed for all these people. Here are just a few I wanted to add. There are many qualities that good teachers should have, but the ones that are most important to me and that I really care about them having are that they love what they do, they have a passion for it, that they are always there to help or slow down if a student needs them to, and that they try a couple of different teaching methods so they can fill the needs of all students. It is important for a class to have qualities that will make them as a class better. A few qualities important for a class are that they should be respectful to everyone in the class even if they may have a different opinion then themselves; to make a class work you also need participation from everyone in the class. It is no fun if a handful of people are doing all the talking. Good qualities of a student are that they respect the teacher and their fellow classmates and that they share their ideas and points of view with the class. It just might be the best idea of the day.
