Today in class we began the day by saying hello after not seeing each other for 6 days!! After that, we got right down to business and dove into finishing Act 1 of Romeo and Juliet. Here's our notes for each individual scene:
Scene 3: We discussed how Juliet did not want to marry Paris, while her mother and her maid attempted to convince her. Lady Capulet was saying to her daughter that she had been a mother and married by Juliet's age (almost fourteen). We also discussed the strained mother-daughter relationship between them, and how Lady Capulet seemed eager to kick her daughter out and have her married.
Scene 4: In this scene, what particularly stood out in our discussion was Romeo's dream. In his dream, he prophesies his own death and consciously decided to turn his life over to fate. Romeo knew that after the night of the Capulet ball, his life would change.
Scene 5: This was an extremely important scene where Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time at the Capulet Ball.
After the reading, we watched a couple minutes of Scene 3, but we were cut short by the bell. Until next time!
