Period 05-13 February, 2012

At the start of class today, students arranged themselves according to the new seating chart. Smith went over homework, reminding us that tomorrow is the day that two more English teachers will be joining class to aid in editing our Little Brother/1984 essays. As this is focused editing, each student must bring in specific focused questions should they wish to have their paper edited. (e.g. I'm struggling with... and Does this fit here...?) Again, you will not receive this help unless you bring in focus questions!

Next, Smith answered some clarifying questions regarding the body paragraphs. She explained that while doing our works cited and internal documentations, the first word of the MLA 7 citation will be what goes in the corresponding internal documentation. In addition to this, she discussed the sources of supporting quotes. They must go as follows:

First (What we have learned): One 1984 quote, one Little Brother quote, and one modern quote
Second (What we haven't learned): One 1984 quote, one Little Brother quote, and one modern quote
Third (Where are we going?): All modern quotes

Before peer editing introductory, first, and second paragraphs, we received our new grammar sentences for the week and were introduced to participles. This part of speech can be used as an adjective or a noun though it is formed by verbs, as shown in the second sentence.

some (ind pron) of (prep) my (poss pron) friends (n) bought (av) me (prn) a (art) ticket (n) for (prep) the (art) concert (n)

ben (N) a (art) former (adj) student (n) at (prep) my  (poss pron) middle (adj) school (nearned (av) a (art) prestigious (adj) teaching (part) scholarship (n)

Scribe Period 3, 2-10-12

“Hello Class!”
“Hello Smith!”

Today we started out by handing in the CSAP and DOL 11,. Then we took the grammar quiz. After that, we had time to work on our “What have we learned, what haven’t we learned, where are we going?” paper. We edited the first two body paragraphs and started the third. Mrs. Smith recommends that you are finished by Tuesday so that we can edit in class.

Remember to cite the pictures on your wiki. For example, you would do...
Lead in.......             Picture                (Citation).

Example:

Today’s government has become a big brother. (Recruiting).

HW: outline and compose 3rd body, make edits intro, 1, 2, wikify paper

Smith 3 Scribe 2/9

Tomorrow's Friday! Hurray!!!! But first...we have to get through Thursday. As planned, today in class was a total work day for our wiki essays. Mrs. Smith was available for help, plus today is Writing Lab. The video yesterday was working so we watched it today and questioned whether or not a world of glass was in the future. Bekah went over how to customize the background of your webpage.
  1. Create a power point slide with pictures of your choice.
  2. Save the slide as a jpeg.
  3. Go to manage my site.
  4. Go to colors and fonts
  5. Choose background image
  6. Choose custom
  7. Add the file
Homework: CSAP packet, grammar quiz tomorrow, work on essay (2nd body)
Next Tuesday: Mrs. Smith is having 3 English teachers come in to help us so bring specific questions for them.

Scribe: Febuary 08, 2011 Period 5

We started off the day with filing into the classroom and grabbing our assigned laptops. First we took care of grammar.

Punctuation and Clauses-

[There are pretty flowers in your garden]; [however, they don't smell very good.]
                        Ind Clause                           CD                     Ind Clause

[On Friday, Febuary 11, 2011 I auditioned for the school play.]
                                     Ind Clause(SS)

Next, we went over the CSAP. Remember to underline important words in the question! Also remember to go back to the story if it is referenced.

After CSAP, we watched a video titled A Day Made of Glass 2. It showcased many different technologies that could exist in the future.

To end the day, we edited our introductions by way of musical chairs.

Homework:
1. Outline and compose 1st body paragraph (Remember, Smith would like for us to get this done, but if you are overworked you can do it at a later date).
2. CSAP (even though it is easy, don't forget about it!)
